The village of Verdenne during the battle of the Ardennes

Verdenne suffered heavily from the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. Its main street is even named 'Rue Noël 1944' Christmas 1944 street in remembrance of this sad day. A monument has been erected in memory of the resistance fighters shot down in September 1944. The wooded heights stretching alongside the road between Marche and Hotton, and located between the Ardennes massif and the Famenne plain, represents a promontory that, once crossed, gives open access to the Meuse River.
