Férage : It is commonly believed that the seigneurie of Ferage, linked to that of Finnevaux, was part of the property of the Hampteau Family and later to that of the Minckwitz family to whom it was passed on by marriage. The manor farm of Ferage, which belongs to the Belgian State (Royal Donation), constitutes the only remains of this former seigneury.
Hutebize : This place name designates the high plateau that dominates the promontory to the north of which the Lesse flows into the Meuse River. Maybe it owes its name to the hooting (hululement in French) of the North wind (bise) that is a particularly disagreeable around those areas?
Mahoux : Mahoux stems from the radical Hurt that gave birth to Houx-sur-Meuse and Hour-en-Famenne.
This hamlet of Mesnil has always been associated to the history of principal agglomeration (Mesnil-Saint-Blaise) from which it is separated by quite a distance. From 1796 to 1806, Mahoux was independent of Mesnil.
During the First World War, the Austrian howitzer batteries that bombarded the fortress of Charlemont (Givet) were stationed on the hilltops of Mesnil-Saint-Blaise.
