Domain of the Caves of Han: The Wildlife Park

One of the most beautiful caves in Europe, tucked away in a stunning natural setting !Get up close and personal to the European fauna! The Wildlife Park, an expanse of 250 hectares, is a haven of peace and quiet. More than that it is also a feast for your eyes : a panorama on the old Lesse valley or the discovery of the mysterious Belvaux Chasm, where the river embarks on its underground course. A diversity of animal species complete this setting. Both animals that live in our woods today : stags, deer, wild boar... and rarer and protected animals such as the ibex, the Tarpan horse, the Przewalsky horse or the European bison can be seen in the Reserve. And finally, you may also admire impressive predators such as the wolf, the lynx or the brown bear. The fact that the animals are happy and well taken care of can be deduced from the impressive number of births that take place every year. A specially designed safari-car for optimal safety will take you on a guided tour of this wonderful wildlife reserve. The park will also welcome a couple of new species, amongst other vultures (that were injured by poachers and can’t be released back into the wild), marmots (groundhogs), and several owl species… New : discover the canopy in the Wildlife Park: a fantastic treetop adventure! This 200 m long bridge travelling through the tree tops is a recent addition to the park. From the bridge you can enjoy stunning views of the former river valley as well as a number of more secretive animal species who reside in the tree tops! Prehistohan New exhibition: 50 years of excavation in the waters of the Lesse. This year the PrehistoHan highlights the underwater excavations carried out on the bed of the Lesse and at the exit from the Cave of Han. Films, scale models and photos will take you on a journey with the divers, into the murky waters of the river, on a discovery of one of Belgium’s most fabulous archaeological treasures. It’s an adventure that started 50 years ago! Visited by man for over 4,000 years, the Cave of Han has yielded up an impressive quantity of archaeological objects dating from the Late Neolithic to modern times. The Late Bronze Age is without a doubt the best represented period. The quantity of objects discovered is such that it makes Han one of the most important sites in Western Europe for this period. Come and discover these exceptional items in a presentation that manages to be attractive, interactive as well as fun! The exhibition also includes a section dedicated to the natural sciences: geology, the formation of the caves and concretions and cave fauna. A large scale model of the massif of the caves, a presentation of the various networks of the cave system and an animated sequence about the Lesse when it’s in spate complete the exhibition. Lastly, accompanied by Laura Craft, join in the archaeological excavations in the Cave of Han as if you were there! Once you’re comfortably seated in the interactive cinema, put on your 3D glasses, grab your joystick and set off on an exploration of the secret galleries of the Cave of Han and its treasures! An attractive and completely safe playground. New free games ! Part of this playground is arranged for children with reduced mobility. The cafeteria provides fast but well-prepared food (waffles, pancakes, snacks...) at reasonable rates.
