Castel Saint-Pierre

Near the Beauraing city centre you can go for a stroll in an enchanting environment: the park of the Castel Saint-Pierre, 27ha wood, walking paths, seven fishing ponds and a beautiful dwelling : the castle built by Charles Lenelle. It is an ideal place for walks, angling, sport and recreation, with a number of barbecues, a playground and rest areas. A modest but varied arboretum with typical trees and saplings from the Calestienne area invites you to the discovery of 50 different species. The park is the property of the city of Beauraing and is open to the public. You can also admire a chapel in Roman style, dedicated to Saint-Petrus, who gave his name to the park. Chapel and park are both listed monuments. Not far from the chapel there is an iron statue erected by the Duke of Osana in memory of his mother, the Duchess of Beaufort. This statue used to stand in Saint-Mary park where the statue of the Holy Mary is now located. At the time of the Dukes of Osana, these two parks were conceived as a whole. The Duke was the last lord of Beauraing and restored the castle using great financial means. At his death, the castle was sold and a couple of years later (on the 3rd June 1889) it was entirely consumed by flames.
